Welcome to my first blog after quite some time. The last 18 months has been taken up with lots of lighthouse projects and much has happened since the first compassion lighthouse made! some new equipment has enabled me to open a few new doors of possibilities to perfect some techniques. Making bricks of correct dimension and various stonemasonary parts has made this an exciting time but I still need to finish one of the compassion lighthouses called Lighthouse ‘One Light’ this was a lighthouse made for a very brave young boy called Mitchell Huth who sadly lost his fight against his neuroblastoma last week and my thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time…One light is the first of its kind to have individually hand made bricks and cemented to a tower base. It works very well and is the way forward for future compassion lighthouses as the lighthouse can be made well ahead by standard sized parts and the sponsored bricks that get initialled can be added quickly once fired in the kiln. another benefit is that the light can be taken to fund raising events and does seem to capture every ones attention and imagination. Each lighthouse can have as many as 1000 initialled bricks and thus can raise as much as £2k – £5K but the real reason for the compassion light is to have it as a spiritual symbol in the dark as they do function as a light and have a ramped light flash.
Soon a new Lighthouse called ‘Karens cause I’ will be launched to raise money for Karen Holroyd’s cause to get a Cyberknife machine to Wales. Karen had cervical cancer and had the treatment using this technique in London and its her desire to have one closer so others can benefit as she has..
